4 Days:From $1285 per person based on private departures for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests; for departures June 16 through November 15, the rate is $1,485 per person. Add additional Interludes to enhance your Zimbabwe and Africa experience

Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest national park, accounting for an area of over 5,500 square miles. Formerly the home of the San bushmen, the Nhanzwa, and later the royal hunting ground for Matabele king, Mzilikazi, the area was finally designated for wildlife conservation in 1928. A haven for over 100 mammal and 400 bird species, the park protects populations of all of Zimbabwe’s endangered species, elephants numbering in excess of 20,000 (up from around 4,000 when the park was proclaimed), and what is thought to be one of the largest populations of African wild dog left in the world. Large prides of lion and buffalo are frequently seen here and you have a good chance of spotting leopard and rhino in addition to cheetah and spotted hyena. The wild and woolly brown hyena also occurs here and is something of a rarity.

4 Days:From $1,782 for private departures in Apr, May & Nov. based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Departures Jun-Oct priced at $2,296. The camp is closed from November through March

Mana Pools National Park lies at the heart of the Zambezi Valley, where the Zambezi River meanders for 200 miles to the Mozambican border. It is a remote, beautiful place with spectacular views of the broad flowing river, floodplains, the tree canopy and the mountains of the Rift Valley escarpment over the border in Zambia. This stretch of the Zambezi River is famous for its four main pools (after which the Park is named - 'mana' means 'four' in Shona) - Main, Chine, Long and Chisambuk - which are remnants of channels of the river which stopped flowing years ago. These and smaller seasonal pools dotted further inland hold water all year round, drawing all manner of wildlife and waterfowl during the dry season. The plentiful ana trees that characterize the floodplain shed their protein-rich pods during this time too, providing vital sustenance for many species, particularly elephant.
