There is no better way to experience the diverse wildlife and learn about the many Amazon rainforest animals than on a luxury cruise on the Amazon River on the M/V Aqua and the M/V Aria. Arequipa was founded by the Spanish in 1540. The center of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it is known as the "white city" because many of buildings are made from the white volcanic rock known as "sillar" This is a very scenic city and you will quickly discover why "Arequipa" means " behind the mountains" as the snowcapped mountains serve as a backdrop for the city. It is also the gateway to the Colca Canyon where you will be exposed to the flight of Condors as they soar on the canyon’s thermals.

Cuzco

The name Cuzco, in Quechua, means “center of the world” and so it was for both the Incas and the Spaniards. Following the arrival of the Spaniards, Cuzco became a mestizo and colonial city featuring splendid colonial constructions, built on top of Inca foundations. The city sits at an altitude of 11.000 feet so some adjustment is needed during the first 24 hours. Many people believe drinking Mate tea assists in the transition. Nestled in the Andes, Cuzco is one of the most fascinating places in the Americas, which never fails to surprise visitors with its mystery-filled history. With its excellent hotels and restaurants, this city is full of amazing places to see.

La Paz and the Island of the Sun

In the Altiplano, at the foot of the majestic snow-capped Illimani, bathed by the sacred waters of Lake Titicaca, lies La Paz, the City of the Starry Sky, of the ancient Tiahuanaco, and a dream landscape surrounded by enormous mountains and spectacular glaciers. It is the cradle of the Tiahuanaco civilization (ca. 2000 B.C. to 1000 A.D.), a pre-Incan culture that established its city on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Its power and influence reached up to what is now northern Chile and southern Peru, and it is considered by many scholars to be the mother of civilizations in the Americas.

According to legend the sun god had his two children, a boy and a girl, spring from the waters of Lake Titicaca to create Cusco and from that the entire Inca Empire. If so the children would probably have been happy to leave the lake since at an elevation of 12,500 feet and a depth of over 900 feet, the water is a tad chilly. Today the lake shares its shoreline with both Peru and Bolivia with Puno being the largest Peruvian city. From Puno you can cruise on a lake large enough to have waves and a naval presence. On the lake are 30 islands created by nature and over 40 floating islands created by man.

Lima

Lima, the capital of Peru, is an effervescent city in constant transformation, where the different expressions of the country’s cultural diversity coexist perfectly. Founded in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro, in colonial times it was considered the City of Kings, and UNESCO recently designated it as a World Heritage Site. Among Lima’s highlights are its beautiful historic center with its buildings that house treasures of colonial art, such as the Convent of San Francisco, which is home to a beautiful library; or the Casa Aliaga, the oldest continuously inhabited private dwelling in the Southern Hemisphere; among others. Visit Lima’s prestigious museums and private collections, such as the Rafael Larco Herrera Archaeological Museum, home to over 3,000 years of pre-Columbian Peruvian history. Situated on the coast, Lima is known for its seafood but also for Fusion cuisine especially the combination of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine.

Machu Picchu

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu, (meaning “old peak”) has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and is also Peru's main travel destination. Introduced to the world a century ago as the Lost City of the Incas by the American Hiram Bingham, the city still guards the secret of the reasons why the Inca leader Pachacutec had it built. What intrigues all visitors and researchers is the fact that the great Inca ordered that this marvel of architectural and engineering marvel be built in such an inaccessible spot, surrounded by untamed nature. To visit Machu Picchu is to enter into a different dimension, in which the Andean world view clearly unfolds before your eyes and flows forth to fill you with its energy. The citadel was built in complete harmony with nature, on the summit of Machu Picchu hill, crowning the Urubamba River which flows mightily at its feet.

Urubamba Sacred Valley

The Sacred Valley was the Inca’s favorite spot. It is a vast area with picturesque towns and dream landscapes, featuring the Urubamba or Vilcanota River flowing through from the town of Pisac to Ollantaytambo. It is a fertile valley with a maze of platforms devoted to agriculture, and which is still in use today, for the cultivation of products such as potatoes and large-grain corn, the main source of sustenance for the Andean population and the only one of its kind. The Sacred Valley also features the Moray complex, an ingenious system of circular platforms used as an agricultural laboratory for the climate adaptation of species from other ecological areas. The Valley now has an exceptional travel infrastructure that attracts visitors from all over the world, and in addition to the archaeological attractions, it is also possible to go canoeing, mountain biking, hiking, among other adventure sports.

Trujillo & Chiclayo

Trujillo, the city of eternal spring, is one of Peru’s main cultural destinations, and home to a considerable sampling of pre-Hispanic archaeological remains, while at the same time showcasing why it was one of the most important cities of the colonial era, with its beautiful and perfectly preserved buildings and mansions. The area is also famous for the seaside resort of Huanchaco, where it is possible to see fishermen navigating the sea on rustic totora reed vessels. Located on Peru’s northern coast, Chiclayo is a land full of contrasts close to the sea, presiding over an inexorable desert mixed in with fertile valleys that, centuries ago, saw the development of cultures such as the Mochica and Chimu, which dominated a large part of northern Peru. It is a true delight for history and archaeology buffs, as it is home to extraordinary archaeological complexes, and two of Peru’s best museums: the Bruning, with a broad sampling of several regional cultures; and the Royal Tombs, home to the Lord of Sipan, the largest archaeological find of the modern world.
