Christchurch is known as the “Garden City” and is the largest city in the South Island but the devastation left by the 2011 earthquakes is all too evident – the forces of nature that have endowed New Zealand with so much beauty have come at a price. Although some of the city centre is under rebuild there is much to do away from the main city; enjoy a round of golf at one of the world renowned golf courses, visit internationally acclaimed gardens, take to the skies in a hot air balloon over the Canterbury plains, or swim with dolphins in Akaroa.
