Myanmar or Burma as it is more commonly known is a blend of traditional culture, immigrants from other Asian areas, particularly China, and a strong British presence based on the long history between the two countries. This is reflected in the food offered ranging from Mohingar, the national dish, to the dark tea mixed with condensed milk and sugar that could only have derived from a British influence for an area more comfortable with green tea. On this journey you will travel throughout the country tasting foods in all environments from fine dining to street food. Through the cuisine you will learn the culture and through the culture the natural warmth of the Burmese people.

In addition, it provides the opportunity to experience today’s river life both as a spectator and as a participant. You will spend time with privately guided tours of the centers like Yangon (Rangoon) and Bagan and then board a cruise where small group excursions on land introduce you to lesser known, but equally interesting, former capitals such as Ava and Amarapura. The cruise itself is a journey back in time since your vessel, while recently built, is a duplicate of the ships that plied the Irrawaddy in the early part of the 20th Century. Sit on deck with fans circulating and enjoy a gin and tonic as you watch a unique part of the world pass by
