Capri

4 Days:$2,236 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

The original occupants of Capri date to the Bronze Age but the Greeks were the first to colonize followed by the Romans. It became a favorite of the Roman Emperors especially Claudius and his successor Tiberius who eventually withdrew to Capri from whence he ruled the Empire for the last ten years of his life. During your stay you will visit his fortress home Villa Jovis which offers spectacular views. Terrified of assassination he was rumored to throw those he suspected over the ramparts to the sea below. The British and the French had their day until the Island reverted back to Naples and eventually Italy. Today, like the Amalfi Coast the island creates images of glamour, alfresco dining and villas of the famous. All true. In fact Mariah Carey is the latest celebrity to own in Capri. The island offers spectacular pathways for you to explore, Limoncello for you to drink and the Piazzetta for you to dine and people watch. You will not want to leave

Cinque Terre and Ligurian Coast

4 Days:$2, 393 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation

As a whole, the Ligurian Coast is not as well known as some other areas in Italy but if you mention names like Portofino, Rapallo or the Cinque Terre people pay attention. Your base for this stay is Santa Margherita Ligure little known in America but known in Europe as the “Pearl of the Tigullio” because it combines natural beauty with a sophisticated urban atmosphere including boutiques and nightclubs. It can also serve as means of visiting the fabled lands of the Cinque Terre. So much to see, so little time

Florence

4 Days:$1,987 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation

No place exemplifies the heart of the Renaissance better than Florence for in this place lived the creators of the art, literature and architecture that gave it its focus and the Medicis who gave it the funding. In this brief introduction your private guide will walk you through central Florence and bring history life through the buildings still standing today. The history of the art will be explained through a visit in the Uffizi gallery as you watch the progression of Renaissance art. At the end you will want more but this is a good start.

Italian Lakes

4 Days:$1,478 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

Your stay in the Italian Lake region gives you another example of the scenic diversity of the country. Your base on Lake Maggiore puts you less than 30 miles from Locarno in Switzerland which shares the lake shore on the Swiss side. Lake Como is also close by and the Borromean Islands are nestled in the heart of the lake and easily accessible. This stay offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy the clean mountain air and beautiful lake views.

Milan

4 Days:$2,339 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation

Milan is recognized as a world famous fashion and design capital, with a major global influence in commerce, industry, music, sport, literature and media. The city is famous for its fashion houses and shops (such as along Via Monte Napoleone) and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in the Piazza Duomo which is reputed to be the world’s oldest shopping mall. The city has a rich cultural heritage and legacy, a vibrant nightlife and has a unique cuisine; it is home to numerous famous dishes such as the Panettone Christmas cake and “risotto alla Milanese”. Experience it all.

Naples and Pompeii

4 Days:$1, 747 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

Start your experience in Naples, a bustling city with spectacular views; a city that gave the world pizza, a zest for life and the melody of O Sole Mio. Naples sits on the northern edge of one of the most beautiful bays in Italy-the Bay of Naples. Mount Vesuvius and the romantic islands of Capri and Ischia lie in close proximity to the city. Nearby is the ancient city of Pompeii covered by volcanic ash from an eruption of Vesuvius which dominates both Naples and Pompeii. You explore the city frozen in ash and get a snapshot of life for the average citizen in Roman times. With its sunny climate numerous historic and artistic sights, friendly people, great cuisine and a gorgeous natural setting, Naples is a destination overlooked by some American tourists. Their loss!

Positano & Amalfi Coast

4 Days:$2,326 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation

When you think of Italian glamour, certain words and towns come to mind and one of them is sure to be Positano, a charming village cascading down the hillside to the port that was the source of its wealth in the 16th and 17th Centuries. It is hard to believe that the good times went away and in fact half the population left for Australia in the second half of the 19th Century. It was not until the middle of the 20Th Century that the town was “discovered” but since then it has been a mainstay of jet set travel. While chic is nice, charming is even better and Positano is both.

Puglia

4 Days:$2,254 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

Italy is said to resemble a boot and if you look at a map you will see what they mean. If so, then Puglia (or Apulia) is the high heel situated with the Adriatic on one side and the Ionian Sea on the other. Although its popularity has picked up in recent years it is still relatively undiscovered especially by American visitors. We take you to a delightful resort that has been, over time, a farm, a fortress and a refuge for pilgrims and now a luxury refuge for those who like azure blue waters, orchards and olive trees and another part of the mosaic that is Italy

Rome

4 Days:$2,278 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

The Eternal City means different things to different people. For history aficionados it is the birthplace of the Roman Empire that shaped much of the western world. For Catholics it is the home of the Vatican State and the Pope. For fashionistas it is Via Condotti or Via Frattini. For food lovers it is the highly stylized restaurants of the Via Veneto or the more authentic cuisine in Trastevere. But for romantics of all ages and interests it is standing by the floodlit Trevi Fountain and tossing in a coin to assure a quick return. Welcome to Rome.

Sardinia

4 Days:$2,756 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

While many times overlooked by US travelers, Sardinia located in the heart of the western Mediterranean has had many other admirers over the years: the Phoenicians followed by Carthaginians, the Romans (of course), the Byzantines, the Spanish, the Piemontese and now a part of Italy at least politically if not culturally. It was the Aga khan who saw its touristic potential when he created Costa Smeralda (the Emerald Coast) and made it into a jet set playground. The beaches of Sardinia stretching over 1,200 miles are spectacular but people also come for the culture. Every place in Sardinia encloses a vibrant microcosm of history, traditions and culture; spend a few days and discover it for yourself

Siena

4 Days:$1,976 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

Siena is one of the most well-known and, according to many, one of the most beautiful of the hill towns of Tuscany. Originally built by the Etruscans, it is famous for the Palio horse race but we suggest avoiding the dates in July and August when the race is run for the same reason you should avoid a city during the Olympics. In quieter times you have the chance to explore the charming streets, covered with cobblestones and enjoy the many fine dining choices. Not far from the city are excellent wine growing areas adding to the pleasure of a stay in the area.

Tuscany

4 Days:$2,317 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

Tuscany gets all the attention and, while we feel there are many other comparable areas throughout Italy it is fair to say that no matter which part of Tuscany you visit it never disappoints. From the gently rolling hills of Chianti to the charming hill towns and the graceful villas dotting the landscape it is all that the painters have captured and the authors described. It is a place to rent for three months and become as one with the culture but this interlude will be a worthy introduction

Umbria

4 Days:$2, 160 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

Although Tuscany gets a lot of the press, Umbria is more than its equal with hill towns such as Perugia, Orvieto, Spoleto and Assisi. The region is often referred to as the “green heart of Italy”. It is a region not only blessed with lush nature but a region full of ancient towns with cobblestone streets, stunning cathedrals and old fortresses. It is also a place of tasty foods, good wine and the world famous “Baci’ chocolates from the town of Perugia. Share the pleasures of Umbria

Venice

4 Days:$2,439 per person based on a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your perfect European vacation.

Venice is unique and has to be on the top ten lists of most prospective travelers. It is a city of history and art and also of good food but what sets it apart is its relationship to the water and the ability to explore it on foot. Sure you may get lost for a while but you will eventually end up at a canal and follow it to your next destination or ask the friendly inhabitants of the islands in the lagoon. An even better way is to travel with one of our knowledgeable guides who can take you through the Doges palace but can also show you “the shop” that Rozzano Brazzi had in “Summertime” and even the spot where Katherine Hepburn fell in the canal. Join us for an intimate introduction to Venice

Verona and Lake Garda

Verona is a city for music lovers with its Roman amphitheater serving as the venue for many concerts and festivals. It is also the city for lovers for it is the home of Romeo and Juliet. Florence is many things to many people, the “big city” in Tuscany, gateway to Tuscan wines, a mecca for leather and both the keeper of Tuscan cooking traditions and innovator of Italian fusion cooking. Mostly however Florence is about Art particularly the masters that flourished under the Patronage of the Medicis and gave focus and depth to the Renaissance. Some would argue that Milan has better shopping and Rome more extensive restaurants but if art is of serious interest to you then Florence it must be. Certainly you would visit the Uffizi and the Accademia but most tour groups do that albeit very briefly. This program however expands your awareness by taking you to less well known but still superb works of art by masters such as Fra Angelico, Andréa del Castagno and Donatello. Your guide will guide you through the museums and through history as you understand the paintings and the context in which they were created. In addition to the art there is still time to enjoy fine food, good Tuscan wine and the company of your hand-picked traveling companions.

Rome is a city with many pasts, perhaps that is why she is called the Eternal City. There is the Republican Rome at the time of Julius Caesar, Imperial Rome, and center of the known world, Rome as Haven for the Vatican and the Catholic world and Renaissance Rome where architecture becomes art. But you also need to get out of the city to really appreciate the impact Rome had on history. With this program you do both, you explore the highlights of Rome in its various stages and head out into the countryside to get a different perspective. This perspective is enhanced by the quality of your guide and the fact there are never more than six, all picked by you, to share in the discovery.

When many travelers think about Southern Italy they tend to focus on the west coast of the peninsula facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. Justifiably so, since areas like Naples, Capri, Amalfi and Sorrento are renowned for their charm and beauty. Less visited however is the eastern coast facing the Adriatic Sea. The area, known as Puglia (or Apulia) is becoming well known to Northern Europeans but less so to Americans so we have combined a stay in both coasts to give you a more complete and, we think more delightful experience in Southern Italy

Depending on their time of life both types appeal to women but after a certain number of years it is also apparent that an adventure away from the men, shared with an intimate group of female friends is the ideal vacation solution. If the vacation happens to involve shopping, wine, elegant surroundings and Italy, then so much the better. There is only so much that you can learn about a city through its museums and historical monuments. That is true even if those cities are Rome, Florence and Venice with each of them noted for both. To really understand the culture you need to understand the food and the differences between regions. If, as it is claimed, a pasta sauce with the same ingredients can vary in taste from village to village and even neighbor to neighbor, then clearly the differences in major cities will be significantly greater. In this program you participate in hands on cooking classes in each city but still have the opportunity to visit the key museums and historical sites. Enjoy it all.
