Join us for stay in Athens and a journey in history as exemplified by the Acropolis. The slopes were home to sanctuaries and homes for Athenians from 3,000 BC to the 6th Century AD and the settings where gods, heroes and nymphs were worshiped. It was in this area that the works of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes were first performed. The Acropolis museum, along with your knowledgeable guide will provide an excellent overview of the Acropolis from the Archaic Period which covered the development of the city states like Athens and Sparta and ended at the time of the conclusion of the Persian wars. The Parthenon was commissioned by Pericles in 438 BC and signals the Golden Age of Greece. You will also visit the markets of Athens both ancient and contemporary to get another aspect of the city

Crete

Crete is one of the largest Greek Islands and its capital, Heraklion is the second largest city in Greece. There is a commercial as well as touristic aspect to the Island but its size is such that it is easy to separate the two. History is also resident here as it is known as the centre of the Minoan civilization which predates that of Greece itself. The most famous remnant is the Palace of Knossos reputed to be the place where the half man, half bull Minotaur was imprisoned in the labyrinth by King Midas. Crete is also the homeland of one of the world's great artists. Born Domenikos Theotokopoulus, he achieved fame in 16th Century Spain where he was better known as "the Greek" or El Greco.

Mykonos

According to mythology, Mykonos is where Zeus fought the Titans but is untrue that they were fighting over a good table at one of the trendy nightclubs of Mykonos Town known as “Chora” (town in Greek) to the locals. Although visited by many cruise ships, most of them leave in the afternoon and allow the land based vacationers to enjoy the nightlife. Mykonos is also known for the beauty and variety of its beaches from the very popular, as in Shirley Valentine, to the remote and romantic. It is an island of whitewashed buildings, windmills and rediscovering the joy of living and finding your inner Zorba.

Santorini

Santorini is considered by some to have been the lost city of Atlantis and it does fit the core requirement having been destroyed by a volcano. Whether true or not, what is indisputable is that the eruption created a scenic caldera for guests to overlook from their hotels and this created one of the most popular resorts in Europe if not the world.. It also, in its past, knew many masters and many names but got its current name from the Crusaders in the 13th Century who came here after the fall of Constantinople. They named it after Santa Irene.
