Up until 1917, Finland was part of Russia but then gained its independence although during the cold war it was studious neutral between east and west. Its capital, Helsinki, is known for its culture, architecture and its seafood. Nearby is the artist colony of Tussula located on the lake of the same name. This was the home of Finland’s most famous son, Jean Sibelius and you will have a chance to visit his home and to enjoy lunch and a small concert of another noted composer, Joonas Kokkonen.
