Perched on a hillside, less than three hours from Quito, you will find the hidden secret of Ecuador: a hotel mixed with the native flavor of the Andes. Most of our accommodations, with fireplace and sitting area, have a beautiful view of the mountains and gardens. This former hacienda is a paradise of plant life filled with a thousand fragrances from its bougainvillea, hibiscus, roses and orchids that you will also find in freshly cut bouquets in your room or suite. The sumptuous Spa offers many treatments, including the healing powers of a female shaman. La Mirage is distinctive for its elegant fusion of traditions, cuisines, decor and services from Ecuador and further afield. This Relais et Chateaux property is, in our opinion, a pleasant contrast from a return from the Ecuadorian Amazon or the Galapagos when some pampering and haut cuisine may be called for to complete the adventure.

Cotopaxi's shape is the most beautiful and regular of all the colossal peaks in the high Andes. It is a perfect cone covered by a thick blanket of snow which shines so brilliantly at sunset it seems detached from the azure of the sky.” Alexander von Humboldt, 1820 -- One and quarter hours from Quito, stands the beautiful and little- known colonial Hacienda of San Agustín de Callo. Built on the site of an Inca palace, one of the two most important archaeological Inca sites in Ecuador and the point furthest north from Cuzco of Imperial style construction, this working farm offers an unrivalled glimpse into Ecuador's rich and colorful past. Surrounded by the smoke-blackened walls of the dining room, one can marvel at the infinite precision of the stonemasonry, a monument to the unrivalled craftsmanship of the Incas, and admire the stunning view of Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world. This unique experience provides guests with a perfect setting to savor the Hacienda's excellent Ecuadorian cuisine and enjoy its warm hospitality.
