Hangzhou

3 Days:$934 per person based on a private departure for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your own personalized exploration of the middle kingdom.

A charming and peaceful city on the lake, Hangzhou is a delightful place to stay for a few days and unwind. The main sights are situated around West Lake although other sights of interest like Lingyin temple and the Tea Museum are close by and also of interest. Hangzhou is known for its relaxed attitudes so after sightseeing sit back with a nice cup of Longjing Tea soak up the views or wander by the lake especially in the early morning and early evening when the tourist buses have left.

Pingyao

3 Days:$1,017 per person based on a private departure for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your own personalized exploration of the middle kingdom.

Pingyao is located in Shanxi province and although the town dates back over 2,700 years, the town’s fortunes grew in the latter part of the Ming and Qing dynasties which lasted through the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1911. Pingyao was the centre of banking in China with caves under the city filled with silver. When the dynasty fell, the town became a backwater and this saved it from the upheavals of the 20th Century including the major redevelopment lasting up to today. Small and intimate best describes this delightful small town set within its mighty four mile intact city wall. Probably the only city in China with such a well preserved city wall and in some ways a living museum, giving the visitor an insight into where and how people lived over a century ago. There is no KFC, no Fendi and no Four Seasons and thus it offers a respite and an authentic slice of China as it once was.

Chengdu is a pleasantly 'laid-back' city where tea-house culture is as strong as it ever has been and the city still offers a look at a more traditional China. The streets are lined with restaurants, markets and small stores whilst Chengdu also has strong Daoist and Buddhist influences. As the capital of Sichuan Province which is home to the Giant Panda a visit to one of the area's two Panda Sanctuaries is an absolute must. Sichuan Province is known for its fiery cooking. Although it looks stunning when you first see it, you will see even more on the cruise on the Li River and the countryside around Yangshou. It has to be amongst the most scenic journeys in the world as a rich tapestry of limestone hills seems to rise majestically out of the earth in front of you. Guangxi province, in which Guilin, is located is home to a number of China’s minority people some of whom you will meet, and dine with, when visiting Longsheng

Hong Kong

4 Days:$3,985 per person based on private departures for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional interludes to create your unique China experience

There is no more exciting city on earth than Hong Kong, its bustling pace, its skyline and harbor plus the vivacity of its people make it an ideal place to visit. A noisy, brash and hedonistic pursuit of consumerism could be a fair way to initially sum up Hong Kong. The city has a pulse that is all of its own but within a short drive or ferry ride away from the city centre lie areas that haven't changed in decades. Hong Kong (meaning Fragrant Harbour in the local Cantonese dialect) has a wonderful diversity of 'east and west', 'old and new' and is a city that is waiting to be explored and its atmosphere absorbed.

Hong Kong for Foodies

4 Days:$4,327 per person based on private departures for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional interludes to create your unique China experience

It is rumored, and with good reason, that there are more restaurants per capita in Hong Kong than in any other area of the world. The Cantonese were neighbors of Hong Kong and their cuisine initially influenced the cooking of the colony (and also, based on immigration, the “identity” of Chinese cooking in the USA). When the Communists came to power in 1949 it caused an influx of refugees from other parts of China and along with them the cuisines of Beijing, Sichuan and Shanghai to name a few. Today Hong Kong is an autonomous region within China and the rest of the country has opened up to modernity and tourism. It can be said however that you can still tour the world of Chinese cuisine without ever leaving Hong Kong

Hong Kong Privée

4 Days:$4,882 per person based on private departures for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional interludes to create your unique China experience

Explore and dine your way through Hong Kong and indulge in a farewell dinner at Gaddi’s.

Lijiang

4 Days:$ 1,573 per person based on a private departure for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your own personalized exploration of the middle kingdom.

Yunnan has the greatest diversity of any of China's provinces. Geographically it ranges from tropical rain forest in the south to the snow-capped peaks on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. Yunnan's population is also diverse - the province is home to over half of all of China's ethnic minorities. Yunnan is also home to three of China's mightiest rivers, the Yangtze, the Pearl and the Mekong whilst also offering natural habitat to an incredible number of animal and plant species. One of the most charming cities in Yunnan is Lijiang, specifically its old town This UNESCO World Heritage listed town at an altitude of almost 8,000 feet, is nestled in a stunning valley below the snow-capped peaks of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and is home to the local minority called the Naxi, originally migrants from eastern Tibet. In addition to being a charming destination in its own right, a stay in Yunnan is a perfect precursor for a trip to the higher elevations of Tibet.

Shanghai

4 Days:$2,498 per person based on a private departure for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your own personalized exploration of the middle kingdom.

Shanghai, a city of over 23 million people has attracted various comparisons, some complimentary and others less so. The city tends to stir strong emotions in people and you will either love it for the hectic pace, frenetic development, wonderful food or hate it for its over population, noise and limited number of sights in the city. On the other hand its close proximity to the scenic areas like Suzhou, Hangzhou and Huangshan ameliorates some of the lack of local sights. Given China’s ancient culture it is amazing that Shanghai’s history only covers about 160 years but they are perhaps some of the most colorful and, whatever your perceptions of the city, a visit here is a glimpse of China hurtling its way through the 21st Century.

Beijing is a huge sprawling city and home to over 19 million people. Beijing for Foodies

5 Days:$ 1,973 per person based on a private departure for a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests. Add additional Interludes to create your own personalized exploration of the middle kingdom.

Food in Beijing, especially in winter, is designed to be hearty and warming though many food styles - both Chinese and Western can easily be found. Apart from three daily meals Beijingers snack a lot and the array of breads, spring onion pancakes and dumplings that can be seen in the street side stalls and shops are always handy for filling in the gaps. The dish that Beijing is most famous for is "Peking Duck” and is definitely worth a try whilst in Beijing. The ducks are specially bred and then prepared by masters. The skin is first inflated like a balloon, and then the duck is glazed and finally slowly roasted in an oven heated by fragrant fruit tree woods. The duck (and especially the skin) is then served with wheat pancakes, cucumber, spring onion and hoisin sauce. Forget the diet and cholesterol count for the evening! Beijing is a foodies' dream and we will introduce you to its cuisine along with its historic sights.

Nestled high on the Tibetan Plateau at 11,900 feet, your arrival in Lhasa will be greeted by a dramatic drive from the airport through stunning scenery, small towns and as you approach the city, views of the impressive Potala Palace greet you as it rises nobly from the centre of one of the world's more remote cities. With recorded history dating back from the 7th century, Lhasa offers some sensational sights and as a reflection of Tibet's unique past they do tend to be the story of a religion as opposed to those of a nation. Lhasa can be translated from Tibetan as 'The Land of the Gods'. The city is very clearly separated into its Tibetan and Chinese sections and it is the Tibetan part that holds interest for visitors and where we devote most of our time
